A half canvas places the assembled structure — canvas, chest piece, haircloth — through the
chest and lapel, where shape is won or lost, and leaves the lower front lighter. It is the pragmatic heart of
modern tailoring: canvassed where the eye reads quality, streamlined where it doesn’t.
In-Tailoring half canvases are pre-formed to the same construction standards as our full
fronts: layers balanced, chest shaped, roll prepared. For MTM programmes and workshops building at
volume, they are the fastest route to a genuinely canvassed chest.
Function
The chest does the talking.
The half canvas runs from shoulder through chest and lapel, ending below the chest line. It gives the jacket its roll and its front presence, while the skirt stays light — a construction that wears cooler, sews faster, and still reads unmistakably tailored.
